Why do you want to create outcomes and
goals using NLP
When you utilize the techniques and principals below, you
will quickly discover your goal setting should be magnificent. Here is
an example: Let's say you want to go sailing. You get into your boat,
but you have not clue where you want to go. When you have no idea where
you are going, you will create a behavior that is undirected. You will
end up just floating where you float. Why NLP is so important in setting
goals is that you will produce a behavior that will be the most effective
and efficient. You can produce the best possible results for your desired
outcomes when using these NLP techniques.
So let's say you want to make more money. You do not want
to write a goal saying, "I want to make more money". Instead
you want to write the goal in the present tense, "I now make $___________."
You want to specifically state your goal and your goal should be descriptive.
The goal should be the description of the end state you have accomplished. You
want to include what will that goal look like, feel like, hear like, etc.
Be VERY specific about it.
Definition of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
NLP is how to use the language of the mind to consistently
achieve our specific and desired outcomes. For many people, NLP is considered
the discovery of personal excellence. Below is a more specific detail
of NLP.
Neuro:
The nervous system (the mind), through which our experience is processed
via our five senses (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, and gustatory).
Linguistic:
Language and other nonverbal communication systems through which our neural
representations are coded, ordered and given meaning. This would include
pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells, and words (self talk).
Programming:
The ability to discover and utilize the programs that we run. It's our
communication to ourselves and others in our neurological systems to achieve
our specific and desired outcomes.
Four Principals for Success
When using NLP to create a positive outcome, it is best
to use these following principals.
1. Know your outcome. When you are doing something you
want to have an outcome or idea. Ask yourself, "What is it I am trying
to accomplish here? What is it that I want to do?"
2. Take action. Create the steps needed to get to your
end result.
3. Have behavioral flexibility. When you are flexible,
you allow yourself to have more opportunities for success.
4. Operate from a physiology and psychology of excellence!
This means to review the thoughts you hold in your head. If you have any
nibbling doubts such as, "You can't have that. You shouldn't have
it", you will not succeed. You have to be congruent with your outcome
inside yourself. You want to be totally aligned inside yourself. When
you are congruent, it means that all your systems are at GO. Therefore,
when all systems
What is State vs. Goal?
When utilizing NLP, it is important to write your goal
with a "state" in it. Here is a good example. Let's say you
write down, "I'll be happy six months from now". From a NLP
perspective, you could be happy now. To assist you in activating that
"state" all you have to do is remember a time when you were
totally happy. You can feel those feelings of being totally happy and
then see how you feel. Here is the difference in more details.
Value or State:
you can have it now, stated ambiguously, there are no steps involved,
it's infinite, and usually stated for self and/or others.
Goal or Outcome:
time is involved, it's stated specifically, there are steps needed to
get there (get final step and work backwards), it's measurable, and mostly
stated for self only.
9 Keys in Creating an Achievable Outcome When you begin this process of creating
a positive outcome and/or goal for yourself, notice what happens inside
you when you fully consider each of the questions.
1. What specifically do you want to have happen by creating
this outcome for yourself? (must be stated in the positive)
2. Where are you now associated to your specific present
situation?
3. What will you see, hear, feel, etc., when you have
accomplished this outcome? You want to write it "as if now",
make it compelling and insert it into the future.
4. How will you know when you have it or what is gonna
happen when you go, "Yes, I have it" ?
5. What will this outcome get for you or allow you to
do? (this question will assist you in seeing if you are congruent with
the desired outcome)
6. Is it self-intiated and self-maintained? (meaning,
is it only for you or are there others involved)
7. Where, when, how, and with whom do you want it? (this
will help you see if it is appropriately contextualized)
8. What resources are needed to get this outcome? What
do you have now, and what do you need to get to achieve your outcome?
Do you know anyone who has it?
9. It this outcome ecological? For what purpose do you
want this? What will you gain or lose if you have it? What will happen
if you get it? What won't happen if you get it? What will happen if you
don't get it? What won't happen if you don't get it?
7 Ways to create well formed conditions
for your outcomes and goals
When you are creating your goals, you want to make sure
they are well formed. Here are some tips.
1. Your goals should be stated in a positive term.
2. Make sure you are in charge of your goals.
3. Create a specific sensory-based description of your
outcome and the steps needed to get there. You can ask yourself, "What
will I need to do to get to that place?"
4. You want to have an ecological goal to be 100% congruent
inside yourself.
5. Pay attention to having other ways to achieve your
outcome. Remember there are more than one way to get this outcome.
6. When writing your goals and outcomes, make sure the
first step is specified and achievable.
7. As yourself if the outcome or goal increases your choice
and does it make it easy to achieve? If your outcome decreases your choices,
it is not well specified.
Some final important words in the way we
learn to enhance your goals A few months ago I worked a good friend
of mine in creating my own personal and professional goals. I wrote them
out, created a vision board and would visualize the positive end results.
After a while, it seems like some things were not right. I started to
remember about my learning style and it made all the difference for me.
Since my dominant learning style is auditory, I decided
to record one specific written goal. When I recorded it, I expressed with
my voice the joy, passion, excitement, and positive expectations. At night
I would listen to my personalized CD before falling asleep. I would visualize
and feel those wonderful emotions within. Within 1 week, my desires manifested
into my physical reality.
Now you may be asking yourself, "WHY this is important
to you"? Your mind takes in all information through the five senses
(sight, touch, hearing, tastes, and smells). It is essential that you
discover your own individual style for gathering and communicating information.
Below is a link to assist you in discovering if your dominate learning
style is visual, auditory or kinesthetic.

from DE (Greenbrae, CA) "I am
thrilled that you now have your own weight loss program as I believe
you are very gifted. I truly appreciate all you have done to help
me to keep off 30 pounds. I still have
another 15 pounds are so to lose, but that is just a matter of listening
to my tapes consistently. Your voice is great, and your ability
to weave in appropriate images and music in a very integrated way
is superb. It is an art, and you have the
gift."
Testimonial from S. Ashworth
(Tustin, CA)"I listened to Kerie's surgery
CD's to help me cope with a major surgery.
When in pain, I would put on the CD and let her voice soothe me
so I could get through another hour. I felt she was actually by
my bedside encouraging me through each step of my recovery. Thank
you Kerie for your comforting words and your ability to help me
manage my pain. These
CD's are a MUST for anyone who is having surgery!"
Testimonial from B. Berg
(Golden, CO) "I wanted to tell you that I listened
(under anesthesia) to the cancer
surgery CD on my Ipod over and over again while I had surgery
for a double mastectomy last week. I woke up feeling great and my
surgeons say I get the "award" for feeling and looking
so good in the days immediately following surgery. I think
part of it must be listening to these CD's before, during and after
the surgery. So thanks!"
